Music Diary Project Day 5

IMG_8034

I spent the morning freshening up on Destroyer for the show tomorrow night with Kaputt, Destroyer’s Rubies, Streethawk: A Seduction, and the Archer on the Beach EP. It should be a good time, I’m really looking forward to it.

After listening to LCD Soundsystem’s Sound of Silver, I’d had enough emoting for the day and listened to Darwin Deez (pictured) as I drove to the grocery store. Green Hills traffic really allows time for some good thinking about subjects like the thrilling nature of my life.

I also checked out this new track from Donnis and Dev and wondered what the theme on Free Gucci 3 is going to be.

I did not step foot in Grimey’s at all.

Top Eight Thursday: 1 April 2010

Listen here

1. Sleigh Bells – Ring Ring
2. LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls
3. Kate Nash – Do Wah Doo
4. Vampire Weekend – White Sky
5. Animal Collective – Brother Sport
6. Vampire Weekend – Horchata
7. Girls – Big Bad Mean Mother Fucker
8. Violent Femmes – Blister In The Sun

“Ring Ring” by Sleigh Bells is so catchy that I stayed up way past my bedtime the other night just so I could keep listening to it.

“Blister In The Sun” is on here because I was making a road trip mix, and that song always came on the radio during my driving lessons when I was in high school. It’s probably wrong that it’s one of my favorite driving songs–toss-up between that and “Mr. Brightside.”

Song of the Moment: LCD Soundsystem – “Drunk Girls”

Unless you’ve been in a coma for the past three days, if you are a fan of this particular corner of the electronica scene, you are already aware that LCD Soundsystem’s new single “Drunk Girls” is available for your listening pleasure. And what a pleasure it is. “Drunk Girls” has received comparisons including Blur’s “Parklife”, the Velvet Underground’s White Light/White Heat, and the Undertones’ “Jump Boys.” It takes the party vibe of 2005′s “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House” that got so many people into LCD Soundsystem in the first place and injects an additional boost of endorphins to make sure you stay out all night. It’s easy to imagine the semi-iconic trailer for the first series of Skins being re-edited to this song. There’s not much I can say about this track that hasn’t already been covered by more significant members of the blogosphere, but hot damn this song is so much fun.
